Appium VS Seetest Experitest Mobile Automation Tool

March 29, 2016
Appium, appium testing, seetest, ,Mobile Automation, Mobile Automation tool, automation tool, Appium VS Seetest

If we talk about Mobile Automation tool than apart from Appium comes SeeTest. A number of mobile automation tools available but SeeTest is one tool which would give a fight to Appium for its existence. Sometimes I would rather say, Smarter Appium. Let’s take a look at Appium VS Seetest Experitest Mobile Automation Tool.

Yes, will tell you why I say it “more perfect than Appium”? but if we talk about the market, yes Appium is FREE

Appium VS SeeTest Mobile Automation Tool

  • Re-usability
    • Appium: reusable library needs to be developed
    • SeeTest: Many commonly used function is made available in SeeTest library
  • Hybrid App
    • Appium: Identification of web elements is a tedious task, also we need to switch driver repeatedly from native to web view and vice versa.
    • SeeTest: Elements of web and native can be identified very easily, and no need to switch driver object, just parameter value works to identify an object is in web or native view. XPath Language full support.
  • Reliability
    • Appium: elements identification methods won’t work sometime i.e. xx element is not clickable by appium
    • SeeTest: very reliable
  • Cost
    • Appium: Free
    • SeeTest: Paid, one-month free license available
  • Parallel Execution
    • Appium: Possible with Selenium grid
    • SeeTest: Experitest cloud software available for parallel execution
  • Text Object Identification
    • Appium: not available
    • SeeTest: OCR engine with support for all languages (inc. Far Eastern languages) and special characters

  • Object identification
    • Appium: Appium inspector is not so the best
    • SeeTest: Very good, Object Spy for easy identification of object web-DOM / hybrid properties
  • Setup
    • Appium: Lot of dependencies to be installed, require time
    • SeeTest: Very easy
  • Script development Efforts
    • Seetest effort = (Appium effort) /2;
  •  Support
    • Appium: Appium Community
    • SeeTest: Vendor Support
  • Platform Support
    • Appium: Android, iOS
    • SeeTest: Android, iOS, Windows, Blackberry
  • Image Identification
    • Appium: No
    • SeeTest: also identifies the element on basis of image
  • Reporting
    • Appium: No reporting available, integration with other tools required
    • SeeTest: Enhanced report is in build with this tool
  • GUI Design
    • Appium: No
    • SeeTest: Can automate on basis of color, text etc.
  • iOS Real App
    • Appium: needed developer license

If company has money for Seetest(around $80K a year) go for it, otherwise stick with appium. They both have the same capability of testing

We have been using Seetest and found it pretty easy and reliable. Their support is also very much helpful. On the other hand, we have investigated Appium but did not found very easy to use. It takes long time to find out element and other settings. The main positive side may be, it is free.
