Working with Appium have a common problem that you must have faced is with USB cable. You just cannot lie down on a bed to code because USB cables come out of port easily,  if you are in office and execution is from your laptop then you cannot just attend meetings and roam without a second thought “Is execution running?” So sharing the concept by which you can work without USB cables.

It very easy and convenient, i.e. through WIFi, run appium commands on a mobile real android device with no USB required. Key Reminder before you start the connection

  • ADB TCP IP 5555, This command will start ADB over TCP/IP on part 5555. If port 5555 is occupied you can use another port also. Make sure mobile device and computer are connected over same wifi.
  • Run command to make ADB can control your device over USB from a computer, copy files back and forth, install and uninstall apps, run shell commands, and more.” sure mobile device and is connected to the computer. ADB devices “ADB, Android Debug Bridge, is a command-line utility included with Google’s Android SDK.

  Run below Steps to connect ADB with Wifi & Appium 

  • Run command to make sure mobile device and is connected to the computer over wifi.
  • Now execute Appium Mobile test over wifi.
  • Connect your mobile device to the computer via USB.
  • Execute command to restart ADB and make it work over TCP-IP.
  • Disconnect mobile device with the computer.
  • Get IP address of your phone (“Settings” -> Wifi -> “Your connected network” -> IP address”).
